汽锅鸡被称为是云南十大美食之一，汽锅鸡的发源地就在建水，因为这里自古就制作紫陶器的传统，精美的紫陶汽锅就诞生在这里。不加一滴水在鸡肉里，鲜美的鸡汤都是蒸汽炖成的，汤浓味美色泽金黄。还有食材众多的云南菜，各种花花草草，牛肝菌，石榴花，仙人掌都可以来做菜。阿星逛碗窑村紫陶作坊，蜿蜒在山脊上的龙窑，世代相继的工匠精雕细琢出建水特色紫陶器。
